About Pashtoon Tahfuz Movement

PTM: A Peaceful Struggle for Justice, Freedom, and Human Rights

We are a peaceful, nonviolent human rights and political movement committed to defending the civil, social, and economic rights of the Pashtun Afghan people while standing in solidarity with all oppressed communities across the region. PTM born from decades of systemic abuse, we speaks out against enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and state-backed terrorism. Despite a government ban in 2024, we remain committed to truth, justice, and nonviolent resistance. Many of our leaders, members, and supporters have been unlawfully arrested, imprisoned without trial, detained in secret locations, and in some cases killed in custody, with their families denied even the right to mourn.

The Pashtun Struggle in Numbers

These numbers reveal the untold suffering of Pashtuns—lives lost, homes destroyed, identities erased.
Each figure carries the weight of a struggle for justice, dignity, and the right to exist.

Lives Lost to Violence

75,500 Pashtuns killed; generations erased, justice denied.

Lives Lost to Violence

Every number is a name, a family, a future stolen.
We will not stop until every life is honored and every crime is answered.

The Disappeared

7,600 forcibly vanished without a trace.
Families left searching in fear and silence.

The Disappeared

Behind each disappearance is a mother’s unanswered prayer.
We demand truth, accountability, and the safe return of our loved ones.

Relentless Bombing Campaign

9,237 bombings in Pashtun areas.
Communities shattered beyond recognition.

Relentless Bombing Campaign

The sound of bombs has replaced the sound of life.
We fight for a future where silence means peace, not destruction.

A Land Reduced to Rubble

370,000 homes and mosques destroyed.
Half in South Waziristan alone.

A Land Reduced to Rubble

Our heritage lies in ruins, but our spirit stands unbroken.
We will rebuild with dignity, stone by stone.

Uprooted by Violence

5.7 million forced from their homes.
2.3 million still can’t return.

Uprooted by Violence

Violence has turned villages into ghost towns.
Home is not just a place — it’s a right we will reclaim.

Erased by the System

217,000 ID cards blocked.
An entire people denied their identity.

Erased by the System

Without ID, there is no healthcare, no education, no future.
We will not be erased from our own land.

What We Demand

We demand justice for decades of violence, displacement, and systemic discrimination against the Pashtun people. Our call is for truth, accountability, and the safe return of the disappeared. We seek equal rights, dignity, and an end to state-backed oppression through peaceful, nonviolent resistance.

  • Justice for Victims of Violence

Hold all perpetrators accountable for extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and state-backed terrorism against Pashtuns.

  • Return of the Disappeared

Locate and safely return all missing persons, ending the cycle of fear and uncertainty for their families.

  • Equal Rights and Dignity

Guarantee civil, social, and economic rights for Pashtuns, ensuring fair treatment under the law and protection from discrimination.

FAQ

Truth vs. Misconception: Understanding PTM

An honest look at the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement, separating facts from false narratives. This section addresses common misconceptions, shares our true mission, and highlights the peaceful, nonviolent principles that guide our struggle for justice and equality.

The PTM is a peaceful human rights movement founded in 2014 by eight Pashtun students to advocate for the civil, social, and economic rights of Pashtuns in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan regions

PTM captured national attention after organizing the Pashtun Long March and sit-in in Islamabad, demanding justice for Naqeebullah Mehsud, removal of landmines, and accountability for enforced disappearances

The movement calls for a truth and reconciliation commission to investigate extrajudicial killings, the return of missing persons through legal means, de‑mining operations, and an end to military checkpoints that harass Pashtun communities

Despite its nonviolent stance, PTM has faced escalating repression: media blackouts, arrests of leaders, and in October 2024, a government ban under anti-terror laws—condemned by Amnesty International as an attack on peaceful assemblyAccordion Content
